How Independent Bands May Start Booking Shows

An independent band is ready to market themselves by touring after : putting a core band together, rehearsing new music, and recording music for a compact disc, or an EP. Selling products during a tour such as tshirt s, compact disc’s, stickers and other marketable products are essential for a band to do to fund the project.

Booking shows may be an impossible thing for an indie band to do If the band do not know the optimum way to grab a venue  promoter’s attention.  promoters and venue owners generally book in advance, so it’s imperative that a band contacts them months, might be a year before touring.

Bands need to produce flyers/postcards, and send them out constant ly. Not just to different  promoters, but repeatedly to the same  promoters. Sending a flyer to the same  promoter should be done every month or so to let them know you’re significant about the occasion, and to get them to remember your band.

A high quality color flyer does make a difference when promoting your band. Clearly, it receives more interest with solid content listed on the flyer.

1. concert based photo

2. The genre of music your band plays

3. Contact information in bold

4. The band’s price range to do a show

5. A couple lines of reviews from media outlets who covered past shows

Besides venue s, colleges are another alternative Club for performers to play their music live.

The popular way to grab a college representative’s attention is by sending your flyer/postcard with a CD, and placing phones calls to the student activity director who handles live entertainment.

Sending your compact disc  and press release to college radio stations and newspapers is additionally a nice way to make your name known on many campuses. Getting early recognition could advocate your chances of the student activity director hearing about your performer before you inquire about doing shows.

An alternative way to book shows at colleges is by performing at the National Association for Campus Activities Showcase.

Each February NACA hosts the National Convention which brings together musicians, music agencies and university entertainment buyers. The National Convention allows college representatives to see live showcases and organize co-op purchasing with neighboring universities.

Bands such as Dave Matthews band and O.A.R. have been success stories through the association.

Performing at the convention can be costly, but can be value it in the long run for the band. In order to be on the showcase, a performer must first become a member of the association. Several other expenses come into play in order to buy a booth, register and then submit the band. An acceptance fee is furthermore charged if your performer is chosen to play.

Networking is key for independent performers even Assuming that they do not get chosen to performance college shows at the conference. There are other companies such as bar owners, entertainment Venue  promoters and companies in attendance at the showcase.

Social networks may furthermore be key to landing gigs for a band. My suggestion is to check out what Clubs are popular within the independent performer world. Check other independent bands’ pages and see what Clubs they’re playing at in certain cities.

Band Promotion Techniques All Independent Bands & Musicians Need

Major Overlooked performer Promotional Ideas

I’m going to lay out a couple of easy -to-use band promotional suggestions for you…

Successful band Promotions Create With Your Marketing Abilities

Tricks To Selling More compact disc’s At shows

1st make sure at every performance you’re placing your compact disc  sales table in the correct place. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve seen artists who session up their compact disc  sales table in the darkest corner of the Club.

Think about it for a moment…If you were at a Venue and listening to a band. Then, out of the corner of your eye… You happen to see a table session up with compact disc’s for sale. Except, it’s in the corner, and away from all the action at the Venue…Would you go check it out, or even think about it?

When you get gigs at a new Venue the first thing you must do is scope out the place for the the majority strategic spots available for your compact disc  sales table. Heck, there are some artists that session up their table right in front of the stage! Another exceptional place for session ting up your compact disc  sales table is by the entrance to the bathroom of the Venue…I know it might sound strange, but contemplate it. Everybody there is bound to pass by your compact disc’s, and if you’ve one of your “Street Team” members selling compact disc’s at the table. Then, recruit another “Street Team” member to literally walk straight up to individuals asking them “Do You Have The compact disc  Yet?” at the Venue while you are playing – Your compact disc  sales will go through the roof!

Just be sure to have the one walking around drive the people who say that want to buy your CD  straight to the CD  sales table. This will allow them to go straight back into the crowd to gather more audiences for you!

Collecting Fan Email Addresses

Additionally make sure you make it easy for individuals to leave email addresses at your compact disc  sales table. Even better, would be to get individuals to give you the email in the middle of the gig. You might make up an “Email Song” then have someone pass around a guest book where anybody leaves their email address.

If you are not gigging your only option is to visit chat rooms and forums and talk to people and collect email addresses. Why collect all of these email addresses? simple… You’ll be strating a “Band Newsletter” to stay in touch with your potential listeners, and CD  buyers!
